Our Mission
Did you know that over 10% of all veterans experience food insecurity on a regular basis? The Census Bureau estimates that 7.6% of veterans in 2022 (approximately 1.2 million) reported income below the poverty level. Many veterans, especially older ones or those that have disabilities, may not have enough money to afford food, especially if they have health problems or need to pay for medicine.
At BUY-A-VET-A-MEAL™, we believe that no veteran should have to go hungry. Our nonprofit organization empowers veterans to reclaim their independence and dignity. When you donate just $19.95 a month, you 're providing these unsung heroes with one of life's most basic needs, food. While attending an informative and engaging meeting with other veterans, they are given a nutritious meal and receive information about support that can help them overcome their challenges. With your help, no veteran will ever have to skip a meal or worry about where their next meal is coming from. Our mission is to ensure that no veteran goes to bed hungry, and we can’t do it without your help.
The Full Story
Founder, retired Army Colonel, Herb Jones, started this organization after he discovered that funding for food had been cut for veterans who attend his monthly veterans meeting in Williamsburg, Virginia. Jones saw a need and worked tirelessly to create a nonprofit that provides a nutritious meal to those who have given so much for our country. By working directly with businesses, organizations, and supporters, like you, Buy-A-Vet-A-Meal™ has been able to serve those meals during the monthly meetings again! In a welcoming environment veterans enjoy a meal while being educated and counseled by experts who know how to access the benefits they have earned.
We are passionately dedicated to making a difference through our triple-fold mission: feeding, educating, and bringing gratitude and community back to our heroes. Our nation-wide campaign encourages many people to learn the sacrifices of veterans and the importance of their contributions, as well as inspire them to do something to help.
